PRP WITH SELPHYL

Body and skin rejuvenation starts with you.

No really, it can be accomplished with a substance in your own blood!

ABOUT PRP
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, which is an essential component of our blood. PRP contains regenerative platelets and cells, as well as growth factors and proteins. When PRP is separated from the rest of the blood – including other cells and fluids – it becomes highly potent, with incredible restorative and regenerative qualities. It has long been used in treating musculoskeletal injuries, but more recently it has been introduced into the cosmetic realm. It’s unique makeup of healing cells means that it can be used to promote hair growth, soften and prevent lines and wrinkles, increase facial volume, improve sexual function, and promote vaginal rejuvenation.

THE SELPHYL DIFFERENCE
Most PRP providers use a centrifuge in order to extract the PRP from the patient’s own blood. At DermASAP, Dr. Reed uses the advanced Selphyl PRP System. The Selphyl System is unlike other PRP systems, because it purifies the PRP a step further for utmost potency. The Selphyl System collects PRFM, platelet rich fibrin matrix, which is next generation PRP.

Standard PRP is still liquid, which means that once it is injected it will quickly respond to tissue injury and spread to initiate healing. PRFM does not contain white or red blood cells, which makes it very pure. Furthermore, the fibrin matrix creates a framework in order to help localize platelets at the spot of injection, maximizing the growth factor release.

USES OF PRP
PRP is a versatile substance with many different cosmetic and regenerative capabilities.

FACIAL REJUVENATION
PRP FACELIFT
The PRP facelift gives patients some of the benefits of a facelift without the invasiveness of a traditional facelift procedure. The PRP facelift combines PRP with a traditional dermal filler, such as Juvéderm, Restylane, or Bellafill.

This formula is then injected into the face at specific points to lift the face and improve facial volume, thereby smoothing wrinkles and promoting collagen production and long term healing effects. The PRP facelift can take years off without the look of “having work done.”

PRP FACIAL
During a PRP facial, Dr. Reed will apply the PRP to the face like a serum. Then, microneedling will be performed to enhance the penetration of the PRP mixture. Microneedling creates tiny microchannels in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing response. By combining PRP and microneedling, the skin absorbs the PRP serum 100 times more effectively than without microneedling. The microneedling not only creates microchannels through which the PRP is better absorbed, but it also triggers a healing response that is further compounded by the healing cells in the PRP. Microneedling and PRP application is a powerful combination.

HAIR RESTORATION
PRP hair restoration is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure, which uses the patient’s own blood supply to trigger hair growth. As we age, hair follicles become less active or inactive altogether. PRP contains specific cells that are beneficial to hair growth, including PDGF (platelet derived growth factor) and more.

In order to encourage hair growth, the PRP is injected directly into the areas where the hair follicles have started to become less active. Results will be enjoyed in approximately six months. Depending on the extent of hair loss, Dr. Reed often recommends a series of PRP injections to attain optimal results.

SEXUAL FUNCTION
FOR WOMEN
As women get older, they may notice a decrease in sexual functions. For example, they may experience a decrease in their libido, difficulty achieving orgasm, urinary incontinence, or damaged tissues after childbirth or other trauma.

PRP can address these issues for women. The PRP will be injected into the affected area in order to trigger a healing response – namely it will promote the growth of new, healthy tissue in the vaginal canal. Some women may experience improved sexual function soon after they receive the treatment. Results from PRP for women’s sexual function will continue to improve over the course of three weeks.

FOR MEN
As men age, many also notice a decrease in sexual functions. For example, they may experience erectile dysfunction or notice that their erections are no longer as firm or as sizable as they used to be.

PRP can help reverse these issues for men. After applying numbing lidocaine cream, the PRP will be injected into the penis. Immediately, circulation will increase in the organ and men may notice that their penis appears larger, stronger, and straighter. For men who are taking Viagra or Cialis, they may notice that the medication will work even better following the PRP treatment. Some may no longer require medication.

GOOD CANDIDATES
Good candidates for treatment with the Selphyl PRP System may be healthy patients who suffer from any of the aforementioned conditions. In general, patients should be in good health and have a healthy blood supply. They should be nonsmokers and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure.

The only way to ultimately determine whether or not a patient is a good candidate for Selphyl PRP treatment is by scheduling an appointment with a doctor highly experienced with the use of this treatment, such as Dr. Reed. Contact DermASAP at one of our two locations in Quincy and Plymouth is order to request your consultation.

PREPARATION
In order to prepare for the PRP treatment, patients should take the following measures to minimize risk of complications and maximize results.

Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for 10 days prior to the treatment. Some of the medications patients should avoid include aspirin (Anhttps://www.dermasap.com/acin, Bufferin), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), or naproxen (Aleve). These medications may worsen potential side effects of the treatment, including bleeding and bruising. Tylenol is okay.
Do not drink alcohol for two days prior to the procedure and avoid red wine for four days prior. Alcohol consumption may increase risks of bleeding, bruising, and decrease the patient’s ability to fight possible infection.
Do not consume caffeine on the day of the procedure. Prior to coming in for treatment, patients should eat a small, light meal.
Patients may be provided with Ativan, a mild sedative, if they wish. If patients plan to take any sedatives, they should make arrangements for another adult to drive them to and from the treatment.
SELPHYL PRP PROCEDURE
To begin the Selphyl platelet rich plasma treatment, Dr. Reed or staff will draw a small amount of the patient’s own blood. It will be collected in a vacuum tube that contains a cell separator gel. This tube is then placed into a centrifuge, which will spin to separate the PRP from the rest of the blood’s contents. Next, the PRP is transferred in a closed system to a new vacuum tube containing calcium chloride solution. The calcium chloride solution will activate fibrin polymerization, which will turn the PRP into PRFM, which is highly purified and does not contain any red blood cells or white blood cells.

After Dr. Reed has purified the patient’s blood to obtain PRFM, then he will inject it into the affected areas of concern. At the time of the consultation, Dr. Reed will be able to provide the patient with more detailed information about what to expect on the day of their procedure, depending on their individual case.

RECOVERY
Following the treatment, patients may experience some swelling, redness, or discomfort around the injection sites. These side effects typically dissipate in about 2-3 hours. However, in some cases, they may last for a few days. This is normal and should not be cause for concern. At DermAsap we strive for long-term relationships with all of our patients, helping them achieve long-term results that they love.

For 2-3 days following their treatment, patients should do the following in order to maximize recovery and results.

Do not apply or wear makeup
Do not touch the injection sites
Avoid sun exposure
Avoid exercise or strenuous activity
Avoid saunas, pools, hot tubs, and jacuzzis
Avoid extremely hot or cold temperatures
Do not wash the hair for the first day of recovery
If patients received a treatment to their lips or facial area, then they should avoid consuming particularly hot or cold beverages during this time. Patients should also be sure to not schedule any other facial procedures, including chemical peels or laser treatments, for at least one month. In the rare case of infection, antibiotics may be prescribed.

At the time of the consultation, Dr. Reed will provide the patient with more specific post-treatment instructions regarding their particular case. In some cases, patients may require more than one treatment session in order to attain their desired results. This will also be discussed at the time of the consultation.

CONSULTATION
Contact one of our two locations in the greater Boston area in order to schedule a consultation with Dr. Kenneth Reed today!
The consultation is the first step in any PRP procedure. At the time of the consultation, Dr. Reed or a staff member will ask the patient about their concerns and why they are interested in PRP treatment. He will then conduct a detailed examination of the patient’s areas of concern in order to help determine what treatment would benefit them most. Please inform Dr. Reed of any medications or supplements that the patient currently takes. Dr. Reed will also ask the patient about their medical history and any previous treatments, procedures, or surgeries they have had.

After Dr. Reed has completed his evaluation, then he will work with the patient to determine a proper course of treatment that will best fit with the patient’s body and lifestyle, as well as meet their desired goals. At this time, Dr. Reed will provide the patient with detailed information regarding how to prepare for the procedure, what to expect on their day of treatment, and how to recover in order to yield the best possible results.

After Dr. Reed has developed a course of treatment, the patient will have the opportunity to schedule their treatment date. At this time, Dr. Reed will also be able to provide the patient with a cost estimate that will include whether or not the patient will need to undergo multiple treatment sessions in order to attain their desired results.
