Are creams not effective, but surgery out of the question? SkinTyte offers a non-surgical solution for skin tightening with no downtime and proven, visible results.

What is SkinTyte?

Patients who are experiencing the signs of aging may notice the skin on their neck becoming relaxed and loose or sagging in the jowl or cheek areas. They may also feel self-conscious about the way this sagging skin makes them look. Loose skin on other areas of the body, such as the stomach after extensive weight loss or pregnancy, can lower self-confidence. Though many patients feel as though the only solution is plastic surgery, there is another option available: SkinTyte.

laserresurfacingSkinTyte uses a Sciton BBL laser to emit light energy and infrared heat to target the deeper layers of the skin to promote collagen production and renew and rejuvenate the skin. The body’s natural healing process causes this new collagen to form and increase the skin’s firmness and elasticity over the course of time. And not only will this aid in skin firmness and natural volume, but the Sciton BBL laser energy can also addresses skin tone and texture, giving you an overall rejuvenated, youthful appearance.

SkinTyte is not only beneficial for patients who are dealing with naturally loose skin. Patients who have had liposuction may experience sagging skin after the procedure. SkinTyte can firm the skin and dramatically improve the appearance of the midsection. This can be helpful after pregnancy as well to restore the tone in the abdominal skin. Additionally, patients who have had facelifts may want to undergo SkinTyte to maintain the results and continue to address the signs of aging. When used in conjunction with a facelift, SkinTyte can enhance results by tightening the skin in a way that is natural looking.

Areas Treated

SkinTyte can be used to increase elasticity for aging skin on all areas of the body. Some of the most commonly treated areas are:

  • Neck
  • Jowls
  • Chest
  • Upper Arms
  • Abdomen
  • Back of hands
  • Hips
  • Around the knees

How Does SkinTyte Work?

skin-tyte-quincy-plymouthSkinTyte uses pulsed light from the Sciton BBL laser to send infrared heat energy deep into the skin and address an underlying cause of lax skin, collagen depletion. The laser pulses from the patient tailored filter while simultaneously cooling the surface so the skin stays cool to the touch, ensuring patients are comfortable throughout treatment. Sapphire crystal from the integrated thermoelectric monitoring assembly uses sensors to continuously maintain temperature ranging from 0 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius.

The gentle infrared energy pulses heats the soft tissue below the skin’s surface and causes soft tissue coagulation. It reaches just deep enough where the infrared energy can start the body’s natural healing process and rebuild the collagen network, leading to firmer skin. This works similar to how the sun heats a car. The sun’s heat passess through the glass of a car without damaging it, but heats the inside of the car. The laser is completely customizable, so each session is tailored to address each patient’s specific needs.

SkinTyte vs Traditional Facelift

Both SkinTyte and a traditional facelift firm sagging skin, but SkinTyte is not meant to replace a facelift. It offers a good non-surgical alternative for men and women who do not want to undergo a surgical procedure or do not have the time to take downtime. SkinTyte provides natural yet noticeable results without anesthesia, without incisions, and without downtime. Another perk of SkinTyte is the BBL laser’s ability to address skin tone and diminish discoloration and pigmentation. Both have their merits, and one does not replace the other; it ultimately depends on your personal preference and aesthetic goals.

SkinTyte vs Lasers

Sciton SkinTyte is a broad band light source that produces light wavelengths and transmits infrared energy. The wavelengths have a broad range of levels, making it more precise and powerful than other BBL devices and laser like it.

It used to be that the main differentiating factor between BBL and lasers is BBL enhances laxity and discoloration, while lasers enhance texture. Lasers typically resurface the skin and actually take off the stratum corneum, while BBL works from within and makes it so your own body creates your beautiful results. Tightening is accomplished through infrared rays heating the skin gently to about 41 degrees Celsius. Modern advances in BBL technology have made it so it now has the ability to address laxity, skin tone, and skin texture. One is not better than the other, so it all depends on what conditions you are looking to improve and by what means.

Candidates

SkinTyte treatments are available for men and women with all skin types and can be performed on all areas of the body—wherever tighter skin is desired. Most patients use SkinTyte on the face, neck, arms, hips, thighs, and abdomen. The only contraindications are pregnancy since generally lasers and light devices have not been tested or approved for use during pregnancy.

It is important to understand that SkinTyte will not provide the same dramatic results as a facelift, neck lift, or tummy tuck would. It also will not reduce the amount of fat you have in the treatment area, but the tighter, lifted skin will give a more pronounced profile and contour. Further, it is important to be aware of the rate at which you can expect to see results. They are not instantaneous since results are based on your own body’s regenerative healing process, so results are seen when your body produces collagen. We are glad to consult with you before undergoing the procedure, to discuss your expectations, and the results that can be anticipated.

Before & After Photos

Consultation

During your private consultation with either of our SkinTyte specialists, Dr. Reed or Dr. Broderick, you will have the opportunity to share your concerns with skin laxity on any part of your body.

A detailed examination will be performed to determine if you could benefit from SkinTyte treatments.

Once you and your doctor both agree SkinTyte is right for you, they will explain all preliminary steps necessary for optimal results, such as avoiding sun exposure for several weeks before treatment. Your doctor will be able to assess from your examination what wavelengths are necessary to address your specific concerns, including possibly addressing skin tone along with skin laxity. All questions are highly encouraged. It is important that you are fully aware of all aspects of your treatment and comfortable with your decision.

Treatment Process

dscmd-charlotte-dermatologist-bbls-sciton-broadband-light-source-with-skintyte-300x200During the procedure, you will wear protective eyewear, and we recommend that you keep your eyes closed to avoid the pulsed light emitted by the laser. The procedure is so gentle there is no need for topical anesthetic, but can be used if you desire. The SkinTyte laser delivers a series of pulses that are repeated over the desired area to ensure amazing results for your specific case. The Sciton laser cooling mechanism safeguards patient comfort and protects the skin. The skin immediately begins to heal itself and contract, inducing collagen growth, skin cell renewal, and skin tightening. Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated, but SkinTyte’s rapid repetition rate and large 15 x 45mm spot size allows for maximum treatment at reduced treatment time. Areas like the face and neck usually take less than half an hour.

Alternative Uses

SkinTyte is a treatment expansion of the Sciton BBL laser with its infrared light energy clear filter. The BBL laser uses state-of-the-art dual-lamp technology to emit a broad range of wavelengths that can target an array of skin conditions without needing additional handpieces. Some conditions the BBL laser can treat are:

  • Discoloration
  • Pigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Vascular lesions
  • Hair removal
  • Skin texture

To see if you are a candidate for this alternative use, please schedule a consultation and Dr. Reed or Dr. Broderick will gladly determine candidacy after a thorough examination.

Recovery / Results

There is no downtime necessary after your treatment, allowing patients to go back to regular activity following their treatment. Side effects are rare but can consist of swelling or mild discomfort which will go away in a couple days, and any initial redness with subside in a matter of minutes. You are able to resume wearing makeup the day following your treatment. There is no specific skin care regimen necessary following your treatment, but you should always use sunscreen and other sun protective measures to keep your skin safe and healthy.

Patients will see gradual results over the course of several months as the collagen is produced to rebuild and strengthen the skin. Results from SkinTyte begin to appear within the first month and gradually develop over the next few months as the collagen continues to grow and strengthen. Some patients are able to see results after just one session. For those with more laxity, we recommend patients receive anywhere from three to six treatments spaced several weeks apart for maximum results.
